Silicone Heating Solutions for the Rail Industry
At OHMVO we design and manufacture custom silicone heating solutions engineered for the rail industry’s most challenging environments. Our flexible electric heaters are lightweight, compact, and capable of reaching high temperatures, making them ideal for modern rolling stock applications where space is limited, and performance is critical. Compliant with international railway safety and fire standards such as EN45545-2 HL3, our heaters are used across multiple systems. Whether for OEM projects or retrofit programs, we work closely with engineers and systems integrators to deliver thermal management solutions that ensure comfort, safety, and reliability.
Driver Cabin Heating
The driver cabin can be challenging to heat even with HVAC systems due to constant air currents and the layout of seats and control panels. This is why targeted heating of areas such as the footrest, lateral seat enclosures or the pedals can help provide comfort for the driving crew.
Passenger Wagon Heating
Our wall-mounted silicone heaters are widely used as auxiliary heating in passenger wagons. Rail operators typically use HVAC systems for fast temperature ramp-up, then switch to our wall heaters during normal operation to optimize energy consumption while maintaining comfort. These heaters integrate into interior panels and provide consistent warmth throughout the journey.
Automated Doorstep Heating
Our flexible heaters can be installed in doorsteps and entry thresholds to prevent ice formation and minimizing slip hazards, ensuring reliable operation and safety for the passengers.
Water Tanks and Pipes
We manufacture custom wrap-around heaters for onboard water tanks and piping, preventing freezing and maintaining system functionality in hygiene and catering systems, especially in uninsulated or exposed sections of the train.
Case Study
In one of our recent projects, a rail operator in Norway faced issues with snow and ice buildup on the train’s coupling system. The cockpit would accumulate snow and ice, freezing the mechanical latch and making coupling operations unreliable. We developed a custom silicone heater embedded directly into the inner surface of the cockpit structure under the windshield. The resistance heated quickly to weaken the accumulated snow and ice, so that it would slide off when opening the latch. This restored access to the coupling of locomotives—even under extreme climate conditions.
